Dr. Vijay Gorantla MD PhD FRCS

Dr. Vijay Gorantla is a tenured Professor of Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the Wake Forest Institute for  Regenerative Medicine, where he also directs the Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (VCA) Program at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. A trail-blazer in transplant-enabled reconstruction, Dr. Gorantla is driven by a singular vision: delivering transformative wound-care solutions for military personnel and other patients with devastating traumatic injuries.

His research fuses biosensors, cellular therapies, nanomedicine, and regenerative pharmacology to engineer vascularized soft-tissue grafts that heal, remodel, and restore function—rather than merely patching defects. As principal and co-principal investigator on multiple Department of Defense-funded clinical trials, he has advanced hand and whole-eye transplantation from concept to clinic, and he was a pivotal member of the team that performed America’s first hand transplant in 1999.

At Conexeu, Dr. Gorantla guides the translation of our patented collagen technology into next-generation “living” wound-care and reconstructive products, accelerating recovery while minimizing scarring for both combat and civilian patients.
